Leather
NDM leather
Why it matters: real hide takes daily wear and gets better with it. PU and bonded leather peel and crack along the folds inside a year — that is the difference you are paying for.
Zippers
YKK zippers
Why it matters: the zip is the first thing to fail on a cheap bag, and it cannot be replaced cleanly. It is the one component we never substitute.
Inside
Laid out, not lined
Why it matters: dedicated pockets and card slots on smooth poly-drill lining. Most bags at this price give you one empty cavity.

The material
We choose the hide first. The bag comes after.
Axis is cut from NDM leather — real hide, not a plastic film printed to look like one. The grain you see is the grain of the animal, which is why no two bags are identical, and why it holds its shape where a coated bag creases and flakes.

Plenty of the "genuine leather" sold online is coated PU. So here is how to check a bag in your hands, in under a minute — on ours or on anyone else's. If ours fails any of these, write to us.
Look at the pores
Real hide has irregular pores and no two patches identical. A pattern repeating every few centimetres is a printing roller.
Check the cut edge
Leather shows fibre through the edge paint. PU shows a clean fabric backing — a woven layer you can see.
Press with your thumb
Leather creases around the press and settles back. PU stays smooth, or wrinkles and keeps the wrinkle.
One drop of water
On an inside seam, leather darkens as it absorbs and dries back. On PU the drop just sits there.
